Folk Dance Group Alpenrose

The Swiss Folk Dance Group Alpenrose was founded in 1949 by members of the Swiss Club Of Victoria. The Group is keeping alive the wonderful and beautiful traditions of Switzerland so far away from its origin.

The group performs the traditional dances from many different regions of Switzerland, while wearing the various unique National Costumes from those cantons.

Two of our members also play the historic Alphorn, the traditional
instrument of the mountainous regions of Europe and mainly played in Switzerland.

The group are frequently invited to perform across Australia and New Zealand, as proud ambassadors for our Swiss culture and Victoria. On top of their dance practice and performances, the group is also responsible for organising the competition card nights known as Jass at the Swiss Club.

Groupe Romand et les Bavards

The Groupe Romand was founded in 1990 as a social club for French-speaking Swiss and other Francophones to meet and enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. We have our own membership structure and are an Interest Group of the Swiss Club of Victoria.

The Group organises a number of recurring events like fondue or raclette evenings, picnics, pétanque afternoons, mini-golf days and the viewing of French movies as well as activities within the wider Swiss community for the celebration of the Swiss National Day and Swiss cultural events such as the Swiss Festival.

The Bavards meet currently at the Swiss Club every second and fourth Wednesday of the month, where they converse in French for an hour before enjoying a meal (optional).

Swiss Companion Singer

The Swiss Companion Singers is a mixed choir founded in 1992 by club members. The choir's repertoire is based on traditional Swiss folk songs in all four Swiss languages. The group performs regularly at various Swiss Cultural events to entertain and share the joy of singing.

Have some fun with us at the Swiss Club and sing a few typical Swiss songs in Swiss-German, French, Italian or even 'Romantsch'.

Practice is on the 3rd Thursday of the month on the Second Floor.

As much as the choir members enjoy singing, friendship and companionship are an equal important part of the group as.
